Maybe you had already heard about it, the art initiative #artistsupportpledge
An initiative by a British artist Mathew Burrows to allow the art market to continue during the various lockdowns. The concept is a simple one. artists worldwide make a work of art and offer it - on instagram - for a maximum of 200 dollars, pounds or euros. (not including shipping.) Anyone can then buy the work.
Every time the artist reaches €1000 of sales he/she pledges to buy another artist’s work for €200. The nice thing is that not only artists support each other with this, but that a huge number of new art buyers are born through this accessible initiative. It is known that after the purchase of a first work of art, a second usually follows. The threshold to buy art has become lower, also due to the lower price and the large supply, and at the same time the art market has expanded as a result. In addition, a nice side effect is that artists who previously never made smaller work now do so, and artists who previously did make smaller work now offer this at a more attractive price.
The Amsterdam Balie, together with Tinkebell and ThisWorks, has started the Dutch variant of the Artist Support Pledge. 100 artists have been selected with their work and they exhibit at De Balie. If a work appeals to you, you can approach the artist via instagram for that specific work or one of the other works he or she has made under the hashtag #artistsupportpledge.

Misschien had je er al over gehoord, het kunstinitiatief #artistsupportpledge
Een initiatief van een Britse kunstenaar Mathew Burrows om de kunstmarkt tijdens de diverse lockdowns toch door te kunnen laten gaan.
Het idee is heel simpel, kunstenaars wereldwijd maken een kunstwerk en bieden dat aan- op instagram -voor maximaal 200 dollar, pond of euro. Iedereen mag het kopen. Op het moment dat je als kunstenaar voor 1000 euro, dollar of pond aan kunstwerken hebt verkocht beloof je ook een werk van een andere kunstenaar te kopen voor wederom 200 euro dollar of pond. Er zijn meteen in de eerste week al tienduizenden werken verkocht.
Het leuke is dat niet alleen kunstenaars elkaar hiermee ondersteunen maar dat er ook enorm veel nieuwe kunstkopers geboren zijn door deze laagdrempelige actie. Bekend is dat na de aankoop van een eerste kunstwerk er meestal ook een tweede volgt. De drempel om kunst te kopen is lager geworden, ook door de kleinere prijs en het ruime aanbod, en tegelijkertijd is de kunstmarkt hiermee vergroot. Daarnaast is een leuk bijeffect dat kunstenaars die eerder nooit kleiner werk maakten dat nu wel doen, en kunstenaars die eerder wel kleiner werk maakten dit nu aantrekkelijker geprijsd aanbieden.
De Amsterdamse Balie is samen met Tinkebell en ThisWorks de Nederlandse variant van de Artist Support Pledge gestart. Er zijn 100 kunstenaars met hun werk geselecteerd en deze exposeren in de Balie. Als een werk je aanspreekt kun je de desbetreffende kunstenaar benaderen via instagram voor dat specifieke werk of één van de andere werken die hij of zij gemaakt heeft onder de hashtag #artistsupportpledge.
Ik ben één van de geselecteerde kunstenaars voor de expositie in de Balie en mijn werk is ook hier op de site te vinden (en te koop) onder de hashtag #artistsupportpledge
Het zijn nieuwe werken in de serie Waterstories Whispers en deze zijn dus nu slechts €200,- ipv €350,- Het gaat hard dus neem snel een kijkje naar de collectie HIER
