Japanese Snowball is eminently a painting on the fragility of beauty. Her fresh white flowers wilted during the short drive from the garden to my atelier. Boosted with water, it became a race against the clock to portray them. These flowers are so light and dancy that some even think they see fairies in her portrait...
'Japanese Snowball' is a part of Early Bloom which is a series on spring-flowers. The pure jubilation they can bring after a dark and cold winter. Like a breath of fresh air. Magnolia, Ranunculus, Anemone, Viburnum, Cherry Blossom, to name a few. They all have that fragile yet powerful colored look on them.
